WHO WE ARE
China International Economic Consultants Co., Ltd. (CIEC) is a wholly-owned primary subsidiary of CITIC Group. Founded in October 1981 by Mr. Rong Yiren, former Vice President of China and founder of CITIC Group, together with veteran industrialist Mr. Jing Shuping, CIEC is the earliest professional consulting firm established in mainland China after the Reform and Opening-up.
At its inception, the company was established to support the introduction of foreign capital and advanced technology for the then China International Trust and Investment Corporation and to serve the country's reform and opening-up efforts. The company brought together a group of passionate and highly knowledgeable professionals, upholding the corporate spirit of 'efficiency, integrity, and dedication' and adhering to the principles of 'independence, objectivity, and fairness.' It played a significant role in conducting feasibility studies for foreign investment projects and providing legal, financial, and technical consulting services.
The company published the 'China Investment Guide,' which became a crucial window for foreign investors to understand China during the early reform and opening-up era, significantly promoting the influx of foreign capital. Additionally, the company pioneered services such as market research, feasibility studies, and financing leasing, achieving several industry 'firsts' in China's socialist modernization.
The company is committed to attracting top talent from around the world, bringing together a team of highly educated and capable professionals with an international perspective. Among current employees, 80% hold a master's degree or higher, and 18% have a doctoral degree. Their expertise spans finance, economics, business administration, information technology, and engineering, with many having extensive experience working in national ministries and large enterprises.
The company has established a postdoctoral research station with strong research capabilities, focusing on fundamental and forward-looking research in key business areas and future expansion directions. Postdoctoral Research Station
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH STATION
In June 2011, CIEC established a postdoctoral research station jointly with Peking University's Guanghua School of Management. As of October 2025, the station has recruited 75 doctoral researchers across 14 cohorts, making it the largest postdoctoral station within CITIC Group.
The station participates in major research projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation, and leading universities. It has undertaken over 100 research projects commissioned by government bodies including NDRC, Ministry of Finance, and international institutions such as the Asian Development Bank.
Guided by the research philosophy of 'Think carefully, act decisively,' the station provides intellectual services to national ministries, local governments, state-owned enterprises, and listed companies.
The postdoctoral researchers' professional expertise, cross-disciplinary perspective, and innovative thinking have injected strong momentum into the company's business expansion, serving as a vital pillar in supporting national strategic objectives.
